Race Week: IM 70.3 Texas

Yahoo! Race Week Baby! I am stoked as it is the first race of the season!!!

“Enter the Rusty Trombone”

Nope. Unfortunately, it is not happening. Let’s head back to January 28th.

Wait, let’s head back to December 28th, we moved to a new house on December 28th in San Antonio. New place. LOVE the home, the area and SO MANY new places to run!!

On January 15th, I decided to do the Slowtwitch Running Challenge, and my goal was to go 70 runs in 100 days, so I started increasing my runs.

Let me explain something about the new house. There are “hills” around here compared to where Chris and I used to live.

As I was increasing my runs, I noticed a little bit of “annoyance” going on in my heel and I knew that this could be the start of plantar fasciitis. But I kept trucking along. I mean that’s what I do. Right?

When I headed to AZ for the Triathlon Business International Conference, I just LOVED running around Tempe, AZ. The sun was out, and it fueled my soul. I decided on the last day of the conference to do a two a day run. I ran on the treadmill in the am and ran outside before my flight.

What a joy to sleep in my new home, as I stepped down on Monday morning to head to brush my teeth on January 28th,

”MOTHER FUCKER. My foot hurts!”

I knew exactly what I was dealing with plantar fasciitis. Alright, I know what to do, and this was my list of things that I did do:

  • Headed over to Stratton Sport and Spine for ART, dry needling, adjustments, PT exercises, Normatec Boots.
  • PT Exercises at home
  • CBD Oil and Lotion (Post coming soon!)
  • Still swim, bike and ran. I will be racing in 2 months!

Let’s move forward to February 27th (I kid you not with the dates!)

I contact my friend, Marque Allen from the Sports Medicine Associates of San Antonio. You know, the Spurs Docs! I told Marque what was happening. He was like, “Alright, let’s give you steroids, anti-inflammatory and get an X-Ray and MRI.”

Marque called me that day and told me, “X-Ray and MRI turned out fine. My fascia is inflamed and pissed off. Pull back, and I should be fine.”

I took the steroids, and I still RAN (stupid) with the drugs because my foot felt AHHHMAZING! The steroid wore off and I could tell I was walking funny just when I was walking the pup. I was compensating and doing some inversion during my walk. I was rolling on the outside of the foot.

On Wednesday, March 20th was my last run, my heel wasn’t hurting, and the run was AHHHHHHMAZING. The next day, I could barely walk again as the pain was on the top of my foot.

“MOTHER FUCKER, I jacked it up.”

I reached out to Coach Brandon and said, “Brandon, I don’t think I should run for a good week, and I need to put myself in a boot.”  He agreed, but we knew we could still swim and bike, along with my lifts at SoulFit. (I do need to change my shoes for my bike actually!)

On Friday, March 29th, Brandon and I chatted. We were throwing out the good, the bad and the ugly. The biggest concern that if I was going to swim, the bike was that 400 meters run from the ocean to the bike. The decision was made:

“I am not going to do Ironman 70.3 Texas in 2019.”

And I am ok with this. It is a long bloody season, and for me to injure myself, even more, I can’t afford to do that!

So, you may ask “How am I doing?” I did an IGTV for you and here is the link of “3 Reasons You Shouldn’t Race This Weekend 💥.

Guess what, I am doing fine! Seriously. You have to remember I have been doing this sport for a LONG time and when you learn to let the EGO go and listen to what your body is telling you, then you know you made the right decision!
