Life comes at you fast! I am not going to talk about swim, bike, or run. I am not going to sell you anything. I am going to chat with you about life and let you know that EVERYONE is going through something.

About four weeks ago, my Mom fell off a ladder and broke her hip. Next day, emergency hip surgery. I came up to WI after the surgery to get her settled in rehab, got her clothes, etc.

I went home and spent the week with my husband, did a race at Marble Falls Triathlon, and enjoyed life, as I know it. On Monday, July 27th, I started the journey back up to WI via “Domino,” my Jeep Wrangler, so I could bring my swim equipment, bike, bike trainer, race wheels, etc.

It has been over two weeks since I have been in WI, and I had my first breakdown last Wednesday. It is a lot. Why?

  • Working out as I know it (swim, bike, run, lift, and race)
  • Taking care of and visiting Mom
  • Speaking at my high school
  • Moving Mom out of rehab to an assisted living facility (and updating her bathroom)
  • Interview at Jefferson Daily Union
  • Cleaning and organizing Mom’s house
  • Taking care of the athletes that I coach (for Age Group Nationals, IMFL, IMAZ, and Kerrville Olympic Triathlon)
  • Getting on the contractors to get moving faster!
  • Building a new 70.3 Ironman Triathlon Program
  • Taking Mom to appointments
  • Finding more clients for the 2017 season
  • Helping with an article for “Triathlete” Magazine
  • Speaking at the Rotary Club in Whitewater
  • And more.

I am trying to live my life as I know it, but then take care of Mom in the long run. When I talk to my athletes about living life around triathlon training, this is what I am talking about. It is A LOT, but you truly have to take time for yourself and your own mental and physical health.

Don’t forget to go back to the WHY of your triathlon training. My Why is my family. That is WHY I am here in Wisconsin: To help my Mom, so she can start living her life with a new hip, a new bathroom, and a new life with a new hip (No Mo’ climbing ladders!)

Hope that gives you a little perspective on life.  Yes, social media can paint a picture that everything is rainbows, puppies, and kitties. As a coach, I wanted to be honest about truly what was going on because we all are going through the same thing (in a different way). Stay strong, find your why, and don’t forget to take care of you!

On a positive note, I have been able to ride and run the Glacier River Trail while I was here and it has been FAB!
