Why Midlife Isn’t Slowing Down; You Are Resetting Your Energy

When women hit their 40s and 50s, the “midlife,” we’re often handed the narrative that it’s time to “slow down.” We hear things like, “Take it easy, you’re not 25 anymore” or “Just accept that fatigue, weight gain, and brain fog are part of aging.”

But here’s what I’ve learned through my own journey and working with hundreds of women: midlife isn’t about slowing down. It’s about learning how to reset your energy so you can show up stronger, wiser, and more alive than ever.

It is OK to Reset in Midlife!

The Energy Drain of Midlife

Between shifting hormones, careers, caregiving for kids or aging parents, and trying to hold all the pieces together, it’s no wonder so many women feel exhausted. Add to that the cultural pressure to “do it all” and you’ve got a perfect storm for burnout.

I know this firsthand. There was a week recently where I drove to San José, juggled client calls, worked out, managed house projects, and tried to squeeze in surfing… by Friday, I collapsed into my hammock thinking, “I’m not tired because I’m old. I’m tired because I’m overextended.”

That’s when it hit me: midlife isn’t a decline, it’s an invitation to reset.

Restting the Midlife Mindset

The Reset Mindset

Resetting doesn’t mean quitting. It means pausing, recalibrating, and choosing where to put your energy so it multiplies instead of drains.

Instead of reacting from exhaustion (hello, snapping at your partner or reaching for wine at 5 p.m.), you learn to respond with intention:

  • Saying no without guilt.
  • Prioritizing sleep as much as workouts.
  • Trading endless cardio for strength that actually supports your metabolism.

Resets are powerful because they give you choice back.

No Need to Do Endless Cardio in Midlife!

Practical Ways to Reset Your Energy

Here are simple practices I use myself and with my clients:

  1. Walks in nature: 20–30 minutes clears cortisol and recharges the brain.
  2. Strength training: Building muscle boosts metabolism and confidence.
  3. Journaling: Even 5 minutes helps you respond instead of react.
  4. Breathwork or meditation: Just 3–5 minutes a day can shift stress levels.
  5. Sleep rituals: Dark room, no screens before bed, consistent bedtime.

And I will tell you this, none of this is glamorous or revolutionary. But the women who lean into these small resets consistently create the biggest transformations.

In Midlife, It is Time to Get Clear with Journaling and Boundaries!

Your Midlife Reset Starts Here

If you’ve been feeling drained, ask yourself: What needs to reset?Maybe it’s your workouts. Maybe it’s your boundaries. Maybe it’s your mindset.

Midlife isn’t about slowing down. It’s about finally aligning your energy with what matters most — and letting go of everything else.

This is the work we do in my Rise Strong community and at my upcoming Rise with the Tides Retreat in Costa Rica.
