If you ask anyone running an online business what their biggest challenge is, the answer is often, “More traffic.”
Traffic is the lifeblood of your business:
- You need it to build an email list.
- You need it to make sales.
- You need it to fill your triathlon or nutrition coaching programs.
So, the million-dollar question is, “Where do you get all that traffic?”
Sure, you could buy ads, but without a clear strategy, you risk attracting an audience that isn’t a good fit—which won’t help your sales. And while focusing on SEO is great in the long term, most of us don’t have years to wait to see results.
Thankfully, there are more effective ways to get your ideal audience’s attention right now without breaking the bank:
1. Be a Guest
Everyone needs content. Coaches, blogs, and media platforms are constantly looking for fresh perspectives—and that’s where you come in.
By guest posting on other blogs or platforms, you can tap into their audience and drive traffic back to your site. But to truly stand out, follow these steps:
- Tailor your content to your host’s specific audience and needs.
- Provide real value with actionable ideas or strategies they can’t find elsewhere.
- Inject your personality to create a connection with your new readers or viewers.
- End with a clear and compelling call to action that encourages them to visit your site, sign up for your list, or book a call.
2. Get Interviewed
Want to establish your expertise and attract traffic at the same time? Step into the spotlight by doing interviews!
Much like authors on a book tour or actors promoting a movie, you can reach new audiences by sharing your knowledge and experiences. You might not start on The Today Show or Oprah (though, hey, dream big!), but there are plenty of opportunities to showcase your expertise, such as:
- Podcasts
- YouTube channels
- Industry blogs
- Local events
- Industry conferences
How to get started:
Reach out to podcast hosts, bloggers, and creators you admire. Share your unique story, what value you bring, and how you can benefit their audience. Even better, let your network know you’re looking for these opportunities—word of mouth is powerful!
Real Talk: It Won’t Be Easy, But It’s Worth It
Building your brand and business takes consistent effort and patience. I know firsthand how much work it can be—I’ve been on podcasts like CoachCast (Training Peaks’ podcast for coaches) and poured countless hours into building my presence.
But when I think of the word freedom, it all becomes worth it. Freedom to work on my terms, freedom to live my dream life—like right now, as I sit in Costa Rica cleaning up this blog post.
So, keep showing up, put in the work, and take advantage of every opportunity to grow your reach. Your audience is out there waiting for you!
