“Sail Your Vessel” and Run Your Race

I’ve been a goal-setter my entire life, driven by big dreams from a young age. Growing up as a Midwest girl, born in Detroit and raised in the tiny town of Whitewater, WI, I never let my surroundings limit me. In 7th grade, I set my sights on working with marine mammals, fueled by an unshakable passion. I just knew it would happen because that’s who I am—I make things happen.

Was the journey easy? Not at all. But music became my anchor, especially Garth Brooks’ “The River”:

“I’ll never reach my destination if I never try,
So I will sail my vessel ‘til the river runs dry…”

And sail I did. I built a 14-year career working with marine mammals, creating memories I’ll treasure forever. But life has a way of shifting priorities.

Leaving My “Dream Job”

Leaving SeaWorld wasn’t easy, especially with all the questions I received:

  • “Why would you leave such a dream job?”
  • “Won’t you miss the animals?”
  • “What’s next?”

But I had to ask myself: Was this still my dream job? Staying would have meant staying stagnant, and that’s not who I am.

So, I went back to school, earned my Master’s in Kinesiology, and pursued coaching endurance athletes. I returned to the mindset of that determined 7th-grade girl from Wisconsin: making “shit” happen and inspiring others daily—in mind, body, and soul.

Run Your Race

As a coach and athlete, I live by this mantra: “Run your race.”

Don’t worry about who’s ahead or behind you. Focus on your goals. If you feel silly running or need to backstroke the entire swim, who cares? You’re doing it because you can. You decided to take action.

Whether it’s completing a triathlon, running your own business, or navigating parenthood, it’s all about your race.

Let’s Talk About Your Race

Are you ready to “run your race” in life? Whether it’s fitness, personal growth, or a big career pivot, I’d love to help you chart your course.
